CSQ Workforce Planning Model

The CSQ Workforce Planning Program will work with the construction industry to ensure that employers have suitable access to the right skills and the right people at the right time. Access to skills includes considering all potential access sources (employment, contracting out, partnerships, changing business activities to modify the types of skills required, etc.).

The Program Office will work with major contractors who are delivering construction projects to promote planning that considers the business risks concerning insufficient, disrupted, mis-deployed skills on the contractor’s priorities and timeframes. CSQ will use an iterative process in its workforce planning. This cycle of workforce planning includes filling resource requests, analyzing resource utilization, forecasting capacity, managing and identifying the critical skills gaps.

This approach focuses on broad 3-4 year trends, rather than precise headcounts and short-term plans.  This strategic approach to workforce planning will ensure the construction industry has access to suitable skills and labour when required.

CSQ aims to maximise access to Queenslanders skills and labour for construction projects, and identifying the critical skills needs that if not met can materially adversely impact project success. Once project risks are fully appreciated then attention turns to schedule and timing. Assessing current internal capability and assessing its relative position when it will be called upon in the future.
