Sector Development Strategies
The building and construction industry employs a broad range of white and blue collar occupations across 72 qualifications. As part of the CSQ Workforce Development Model, the industry will be broken into specific groups focused on skills requirements. Subsequently, the Sector Development Strategies will represents a large component of the building and construction industry employment. The purpose of these Sector Development Strategies is outlined in the Terms of Reference.pdf and will be to:
5. identify labour and skills requirements to achieve project specific outcomes
6. identify any gaps in labour and skills supply
7. Identify key workforce and skills development strategies
Outcomes from the Sector Development Strategies will include:
1. A focus on the most critical, high-impact jobs and skills.
2. Establishing definitive and consistent data on critical skills gaps
3. Implementing workforce development programs such as succession planning and projects to increase specific skills or qualified workers
4. Collaborating with functional partners across the industry
5. Creating a common language to describe competencies, jobs and other workforce data
6. Regular updates on skills and competency data.
7. Adapting workforce planning to different needs and dynamics.
8. Implementing workforce development processes and tools that are simple and user-friendly.
9. Using strategic workforce planning to leverage skills.
10. Integrating strategic workforce planning with industry planning.
