CSG/LNG Industry

The Queensland construction industry will soon enter an exciting new phase, as a number of Coal Seam Gas (CSG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) projects enter the construction phase across the state. It is anticipated these projects may create demand for more than 9000 workers, bringing widespread benefits to the construction industry.

To ensure Queensland has the workforce to keep pace with this skills demand, Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) has developed a comprehensive CSG/LNG Workforce Plan. The document forecasts the workforce requirements needed to construct the project’s upstream and downstream facilities and will play a vital role in ensuring the future of the industry.

The study outlines the key challenges the industry will face in developing its workforce, highlighting issues such as apprentice retention, the ageing workforce and competition for labour from other mining projects within Australia and internationally. In response to these challenges, the plan recommends a number of key strategies to help the industry to meet its skill requirements.
