Trade Start for Career Seekers - 2011/12
Trade Start - What is it?
Construction Skills Queensland contracts the provision of pre-employment training (also known as pre-vocational courses and pre-trade training) to help improve the quality of new entrants to the building and construction industry. The Trade Start program prepares participants for the realities of working within the industry with the goal of obtaining an apprenticeship/traineeship within the Building and Construction industry upon successful completion.
The program will expose participants to the building and construction industry, giving them a better understanding of the work involved, and whether it suits their interests. Better informed career choices will increase participant chances of completing their qualification and the program may enable credit towards the apprenticeship itself.
Structure of the Program for General Construction
The program broadly consists of:
• Certificate I in Construction
• a Life Skills Program
• an Introduction to Green Building unit
• 160 hours of on the job Structured Workplace Learning.
