Trade Start - Training Partners 2011/12
Construction Skills Queensland contracts the provision of pre-employment training (also known as pre-vocational courses and pre-trade training) to help improve the quality of new entrants to the building and construction industry. The Trade Start program prepares participants for the realities of working within the industry with the goal of obtaining an apprenticeship/traineeship within the building and construction industry upon successful completion.
The program will expose participants to the building and construction industry, giving them a better understanding of the work involved, and whether it suits their interests. Better informed career choices will increase participant chances of completing their qualification and the program may enable credit towards the apprenticeship itself.
Structure of the Program for General Construction
The program broadly consists of:
• Certificate I in Construction
• a Life Skills Program
• an Introduction to Green Building unit
• 160 hours of on the job Structured Workplace Learning.
Structure of the Program for Civil Construction
The program broadly consists of:
• Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation
• a Life Skills Program
• 160 hours of on the job Structured Workplace Learning.
Funding of $2,500 will be made available to training providers for each participant that successfully completes Certificate I in Construction or Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation. A further $2,000 will be paid to training providers for each participant that completes all of the program content, i.e. Life Skills, Green Building Unit (general construction) and the 160 hours of structured workplace learning.
The CSQ Pre-Apprenticeship Employment Incentive of $2000 may also be available to RTOs delivering the Trade Start Program, to encourage RTOs to facilitate the job placement process upon completion of training.
