Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)Skills Assessment

Background:

 

Skills Assessment and Gap Training Reimbursement for individuals has previously been funded in 08/09 financial year through the Existing Worker Post-Trade Funding form. It is now part of the Skills Assessment and Gap Training Voucher Initiative.

On 1 July 2009 Construction Skills Queensland introduced a new Skills Assessment and Gap Training Voucher Program which resulted in industry driving the process. The Program provides a system where a ‘voucher' may be given to an eligible applicant for skills assessment and gap training.  The ‘voucher' acts as a purchase order and enables the applicant to purchase skills assessment and/or gap training services from a predetermined list of preferred providers.

Industry uptake of the Program has been very strong and has exceeded Construction Skills Queensland's expectations, even though at its commencement, industry was experiencing the impacts of the Global Financial Crisis.  The original allocation of 900 vouchers was exhausted by the end of 2009, which led Construction Skills Queensland to extend the Program in both January and February of this year. Yet again however the extended allocations have been exhausted. 

 

Therefore, in light of the Program's success and the continued demand from Industry, Construction Skills Queensland has undertaken a review of its funding priorities, and I am pleased to advise that the Skills Assessment and Gap Training Voucher Program will be extended until 30 June 2010. Construction Skills Queensland believes that this Program is an important initiative which will play a major role in addressing the skills shortage concerns in the future.

 

To access funding:

  • To access funded training, you will need to contact the Be Constructive Helpline on 1800 798 488
  • Your referral to a training provider will be made by Construction Skills Queensland's Workforce Solutions Centre. You will be given a voucher which will provide access to a Skills Assessment and up to 6 competencies of Gap Training.
  • To be eligible for this, you will need to have extensive experience (e.g more than 6 years) in the trade area you are seeking recognition for. Vouchers will be valid for one month from initial voucher date. Only one voucher will be given to participants and no further vouchers will be given if the voucher is not actioned before its expiry date. The vouchers can be activated at one of the nominated training organisations.
