The establishment of Construction Skills Queensland is an exciting opportunity for industry to: create a far reaching vision and long term strategy for dealing with future workforce requirements; and collaborate with enterprises, training providers and government to achieve this vision.

1. Strategic Advice and Leadership

  • Build and grow capacity to shape public policy and legislation relating to work and skills;
  • Influence skilling priorities
  • Provide means for employers to influence the supply of training and other workforce development opportunities
  • Improve labour market intelligence on skills for the future

2. Skilling Strategies

  • Lead workforce development strategies and solutions to address skills shortages and workforce issues. This includes workforce mobility, diversity and sustainability.
  • Encourage competency-based lifelong learning in the industry - creating careers, not just jobs.

Training alone is not the solution to skills shortages. The solution requires calloborating with industry through industry led skills formation strategies.

An incentive is already underway within the civil infrastructure sector, demonstrating how industry can work with the VET system to meet the current and future workforce demands in the civil sector.

Industry through Construction Skills Queensland established a one-stop-shop for civil construction companies seeking advice about training their workforce.

Other one-stop-shop services from Construction Skills Queensland include:

  • Helpline
  • linking employers to appropriate training providers streamlining employer incentive payments and reimbursements, and
  • addressing skills portability

3. Purchasing and Investment

  • Maximise skilling and employment returns on investment for industry
  • Invest in training solutions
  • Indentify industry’s preferred delivery requirements
  • Increase training capacity, flexibility and responsiveness through innovative training partnerships
  • Provide advice on funding incentives available through commonwealth and state governments and the industry fund (BCITF (QLD))

4. Quality

  • Contribute to improving quality and responsiveness of training
  • Identify skills strategies to meet the complex needs of the industry
  • Invest industry and government funds to produce quality outcomes
  • Promote best practice training and partnering arrangements

5. Marketing and Communication

Promoting:

  • Establish Construction Skills Queensland as industry leader and the voice for industry through Be Constructive®
  • Position building and construction as a first choice career option
  • Provide means for employers to influence the supply of training and other workforce development opportunities
  • Improve labour market intelligence on skills for the future
  • Encourage the development of a positive training culture amongst industry
  • Establish Construction Skills Queensland as the one-stop-shop for information and advice
