What’s involved in taking on an apprentice/trainee
1. Think about the type of apprentice / trainee you will need
Skills, experience, employment type – full time, part time, school based or going through a Group Training Organisation (GTO)
2. Get in contact with a New Apprenticeships Centre

3. Find an apprentice/trainee
Visit the Be Constructive Workforce Solutions Centre.
If you don’t find someone that meets your job requirements contact any of the following:
- Your local Job Network call 13 17 15 or visit http://www.jobnetwork.gov.au/
- Group Training Organisation (GTO) – if you register with them they will employ the person on your behalf, then place them with you. Click here or 1800 819 747 for your nearest GTO
- TAFE or Private Registered Training Organisation (RTO) – may be aware of job seekers that match your requirements through their job placement officers.

- Interview the potential apprentice/trainee. For further information on Interview Techniques click here
- Select the suitable apprentice / trainee. It’s a good idea to do a reference check, and ring previous empoyers.
- Sign – up your apprentice / trainee. Contact your New Apprenticeship Centre or 13 38 73 (local call cost within Australia).
They will come out to see you and help in signing up, completing the paperwork and processing funding incentives that you may be entitled to (e.g Commenwealth, State and BCITF)
You will also be able to select the training provider of your choice. Negotiating what training is provided, how, when and where it’s delivered.
