Assisi Catholic College may be home to the Gold Coast’s next generation of construction stars after holding a billy cart building activity for Year’s 4, 5 and 6 students.

The young billy cart builders were mentored by Grade 11 students who are currently undertaking CSQ’s Doorways 2 Construction (D2C) program at the school.

Students from North Queensland had the opportunity to gain hands on experience with a variety of trades when CSQ, in partnership with World Skills Australia, hosted a Try’aTrade® the SF4NQ "Skills on Show" Careers Expo.

More than 2500 students from schools in Ingham, Ayr, Charters Towers, Townsville, Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Hughenden, Collinsville, Proserpine, Bowen and Palm Island  attended the expo.

The Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) team was on hand at the 2012 Brisbane Reinvent Your Career Expo to provide valuable advice and guidance to attendees.

The CSQ team hosted an information stand at the expo where workers from outside the construction industry were able to learn more about the best options for getting started in the industry.  For workers already in the industry, CSQ provided advice on upskilling and training opportunities.

The Reinvent Your Career Expo was Queensland’s largest and only intentional adult careers and employment event for 2012.

A Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) school program is helping to train a new generation of construction workers ready to rebuild their flood-damaged Grantham Community.

Eighteen Year 11 and 12 students from Lockyer District High School and Laidley State High are participating in

CSQ’s Doorways 2 Construction (D2C) program over a six month semester at the Gold Coast School of Construction’s Grantham campus (GCSC). 

Mackay local Jayden Ramsami has begun a promising career with local employer Fergus Builders after completing CSQ Indigenous Trade Start Program.

Jayden signed up for Trade Start last year after attending a CSQ information evening in Mackay.

Through Trade Start Jayden was able to gain a Certificate I in construction while undertaking structured workplace learning with local employers including Fergus Builders.

CSQ is playing a leading role in the 2012 FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expos currently taking place across Queensland.

In addition to being the event’s major sponsor, CSQ has an information stand at each expo where attendees are able to speak with the CSQ team and learn more about pathways available in the industry.

Presented by the Australian Government, the expos provide indigenous job seekers and school leavers throughout Queensland with the opportunity to connect with a selection of Queensland’s most prominent employers, education and training providers

The Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Construction Arena at the National Careers and Employment Expo will be a one stop destination for those looking to build a successful career in construction.

Fourteen Year 11 students from Ipswich State High School are the newest group from the school to participate in CSQ’s Doorways 2 Construction (D2C) program. This year a special class is being held each Wednesday for female students undertaking the D2C program.

CSQ provided the students with Ready for Work Kits which include a hard hat, eight meter tape measure, carpenters pencils, logbooks, sun hat, earmuffs, earplugs and two pairs of eyewear, to help prepare and introduce students for careers in the construction industry.

Townsville concreting company Feldt Construction has provided an apprenticeship opportunity to a local resident, following work placement through CSQ’s Trade Start program.

Feldt Construction offered Indigenous apprentice Jeremy Barlow an apprenticeship after he had demonstrated strong skills and enthusiasm during his work placement with the company.

CSQ’s Doorways 2 Construction program has helped Browns Plains State High School Year 12 student Alyssa Carter to gain a head start in construction.

Through the program, Alyssa was able to undertake work experience with local company Blue Cedar Cabinetmakers. After completing her work experience, Blue Cedar Cabinetmakers offered Alyssa a full time apprenticeship which she will begin after completing her schooling.

The CSQ team is pleased to see Alyssa is on track to a successful career in construction.
