Relationship with the construction and / or training industry
I have worked in the Vocational Education and Training and Employment sectors for over 20 years, with a diverse background encompassing state and federal government programs. Much of my time has been spent supporting the construction industry from grass roots pre-employment programs to apprenticeships, to up-skilling. I enjoy connecting with stakeholders and collaborating on solutions to workforce shortages. Personally, my father is an electrician, and my brother is a cabinet maker. I grew up seeing first-hand the diverse opportunities for tradies and the endless career trajectories that come from pursuing careers in construction.
What is your construction and / or training industry focus / passion
My passion for this industry is limitless. I enjoy supporting and guiding new entrants to consider careers in construction, to their full journey from apprentice to tradesperson and beyond. It is critical in a labour shortage such as we are experiencing to think outside the box and attract talent via all avenues. My primary focus is both in impressing upon individuals and employers the benefits from upskilling and lifelong learning. I enjoy maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, that bring about tangible outcomes for the construction industry.

I have lived on the Gold Coast for nearly 15 years and have seen instrumental growth in the construction industry over this time. I worked in the education space for most of my life in a number of roles from early childhood educator through to business development for trades for a major RTOs. Through my years in the education space, I have developed a passion to assist new entrants to follow their dreams and established workers to develop more skills. I also enjoy helping businesses to understand their workforce capability and designing a plan to make the most out of their team.
What is your construction and / or training industry focus / passion
I love to see people of all ages find their passion and develop themselves from a new entrant to a leader within their chosen field. I find chatting with people face to face, developing a rapport with them, gives them a go-to person within the industry where they feel comfortable to ask questions and gather the information they need. I am confident the building and construction industry is in a growth phase and hope that working with construction businesses to upskill their workforce, will place them in a good position to tackle what lies ahead. I hope to provide workforce solutions to businesses of all sizes from the one-man band to tier 1 companies.

Relationship with the construction and / or training industry
My journey in the construction industry began over 32 years ago as an apprentice bricklayer in the UK. I migrated to Australia in 2006 with my skills and experience, contracting to builders around Queensland. An upskilling opportunity funded by CSQ provided me with a pathway into the training industry, where for the past 10 years I have been passing on my knowledge of building and construction to others. Through both my Stakeholder and Industry engagements I have been able to not only attract people to the industry but assist with training, mentoring and coaching, resulting in great outcomes for the construction industry.

Relationship with the construction and / or training industry
My construction industry journey started at my parents’ civil construction business. Working in civil construction allowed me to obtain a good cross section of experiences in areas such as, Workplace Health and Safety, Site Supervision, Tender Writing, and Estimating. When I was looking to expand my career, I transferred a lot of this knowledge into the Mining sector which then started my journey in Vocational Education and Training. Being back in the construction industry and working at CSQ feels like coming home to me.
