Apprentice advanced

The Apprentice Advance+ Program will provide access for apprentices and trainees to training that complements the skills they are developing as part of their apprenticeship or traineeship.

The program will also continue to provide access to higher level training and short courses for 12 months after they have completed their apprenticeship or traineeship to assist them to be competitive in the market, transition to the role of tradesperson and gain licenses essential to their future work.

Apprentices and trainees are the bloodline of the industry’s future. While our Apprentice Annual report demonstrates apprentice and trainee completion rates are at satisfactory levels — and comparable to tertiary completion rates — we are committed to working with industry to continue to improve these completion rates.

This commitment has resulted in the development of a new CSQ program – the Apprentice Advance+ program.

Announced in this year’s Annual Training Plan, the program will provide:

  • apprentices and trainees with opportunities to undertake additional key training that complements the skills they are developing as part of their apprenticeship or traineeship
  • access to higher level training and short courses for 12 months after they have completed their apprenticeship or traineeship.

This targeted support will help apprentices and trainees and those who have recently completed by allowing them to:

  • gain licenses essential to their future work that fall outside of their apprenticeship or traineeship training
  • be competitive in the market by broadening their skill set
  • build their business skills to support their transition to sub-contractor and potential small business owner.

CSQ is looking to develop and phase in Apprentice Advance+ over 2018-19 with the program available to eligible candidates at the start of the 2019-20 Annual Training Plan year (1 October 2019).
