More than 200 students from ten Brisbane high schools have gone behind the scenes at Lendlease’s Brisbane Showgrounds development as part of a construction Try’a Trade careers expo.
Hosted by Lendlease in partnership with Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and Worldskills, the event provided an opportunity for students to sample a trade and gain career advice from apprentices, trainers, local employers and industry representatives.
The expo was a one-stop-shop for students to learn about different trades in the construction industry and have a go at the ones that might interest them.
To compliment the expo, the Lendlease team held tours of the Brisbane Showgrounds development highlighting the different stages of construction and demonstrating how each trade contributes to the building process.
The CSQ team were on hand during the day to provide students with information on programs to help them find a pathway into construction.
Technology was a major focus of the event, with organisers aiming to give attendees a glimpse of what could be the future of the building and construction industry.
As new construction technologies emerge in the coming years, there will be a growing demand for IT and design skills.
Through its range of programs and funding, CSQ is committed to building a skilled and diverse local construction workforce capable of delivering projects such as the Brisbane Showgrounds development.
