Building design is one of over 70 career paths in the building and construction industry. Here we profile building designer Lee-ann Pitcher – winner of the 2015 Master Builders Housing and Construction Award for Women in Building.
As senior designer and licensed builder at RECS Consulting Engineers & Building Designers & Builders, Lee-ann Pitcher says she enjoys providing innovative solutions and buildings that dramatically affect the way people live and feel.
“It’s rewarding to provide sustainable buildings that will improve people’s quality of life,” Ms Pitcher said.
“It’s also satisfying to find new solutions to problems and construct things differently to tackle the ‘we don’t normally do it that way’ response that clients often receive – as long as it’s fully compliant of course.”
Ms Pitcher has an impressive resume, holding a double degree in Built Environment and Architecture, and she is also a builder – which allows her to see a project through from design concept to final product.
Ms Pitcher is well-regarded for her strong work ethic and her dedication to the industry.
She is currently project-managing 23 modern villas in Niramaya at Port Douglas and has won numerous accolades within her field.
She is also working on a large renovation of an existing house in Port Douglas up on The Hill with stunning ocean views. “By the time we’re finished it will take the house to another level of amazing, while being sympathetic to the original aesthetics,” Ms Pitcher said.
Her goals for the future are to build many more projects through RECS Signature Constructions, a company she formed with her engineer partner.
