La Spina Homes, Lendlease Building, and Valeco Homes scooped the major awards at this year’s Master Builders State Housing & Construction Awards, held at Brisbane City Hall on Friday night.
More than 500 guests gathered to celebrate the industry’s night of nights and recognise the best in Queensland building.
La Spina Homes’ luxuriously breathtaking Port Douglas home was awarded 2015 State House of the Year, while Lendlease Building took home the 2015 State Project of the Year for their state-of-the-art Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane. Valeco Homes’ Freemantle Display Home at North Lakes won the 2015 State President’s Award, which acknowledges an extraordinary home that everyday Queenslanders can aspire to.
Master Builders’ Executive Director, Grant Galvin, congratulated the winners across all 47 categories.
“The State Housing & Construction Awards carry a long and distinguished history of showcasing the absolute best in the industry, and the level of competition among this year’s entrants is unsurpassed,” Mr Galvin said.
“Over the last couple of months our Awards program has travelled through nine regions across the state, each recognising the wide-spread talent and expertise of our industry.
“Each winner was then given the opportunity to represent their region at the prestigious State Housing & Construction Awards, which after 28 years continue to be sought after by the state’s top builders and tradespeople.
“We are incredibly proud of every winner and wish them the best of luck as a selection of winners is put forward to compete against the best from each state in their respective categories at the National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards.”
Major winners
House of the Year
Winner of the 2015 State House of the Year and Individual Home over $2 million – La Spina Homes
This awe-inspiring home is set in the stunning surrounds of Port Douglas. Constructed on a steep slope overlooking Four Mile Beach and surrounded by tropical rainforest, it is an oasis constructed entirely of concrete and steel that pushes the boundaries of modern construction.
Structural elements within the home have been used to create focal points of interest and to maximise ventilation. Internal walls have been constructed so that they don’t quite reach the ceiling, which allows light and air to flow freely.
This stunning home has been built in legacy of the owner’s husband, and La Spina Homes has created a masterpiece that is at the forefront of exemplary construction in Far North Queensland.
Project of the Year
Winner of the 2015 State Project of the Year and Health Facilities over $5 million ¬– Lendlease Building Pty Ltd
The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital brings together highly specialised paediatric and children’s health services and comprises more than 74 specialist clinical departments. The facility has been designed from the outset to be welcoming, safe and environmentally sustainable, combining innovations in architecture, engineering and construction that have ensured the best possible health outcomes for patients. With the project presenting such an extensive scope, it was an intricate and lengthy process for Lendlease and their team of consultants and subcontractors. The project team established strong relationships with all external stakeholders, which were instrumental to the success of the project.
President’s Award
Winner of the 2015 State President's Award and Display Home $301,000 ‒ $350,000 – Valeco Homes
Spacious yet perfect for a narrow allotment, The Freemantle’s inventive double-storey design includes four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and multiple indoor and outdoor living spaces. The overall floorplan maximises the use of every piece of space and natural light on offer, creating a truly liveable home. The main feature of The Freemantle is the large void in the living area, a stunning light-filled space, with decorative internal wall and floor-to-ceiling windows that simply take your breath away.
