Thompson Building Group claimed the trophy and accompanying kudos when their team took out the CSQ Tradie Vs campaign.

Troy Mendham, Dwayne Jenkins, Lance Ainsworth and Zack “Macca” Macklin-Shaw put their skills to the test during a series of ‘Myth Busters meets The Block’ style challenges which included building a cyclone-proof portaloo and a kicking machine to rival Steve Renouf.

Accepting their trophy on stage at the CSQ Excellence Awards the team said taking part in Tradies Vs had been a great experience;

“Each day we arrived at Tradies Vs not knowing what kind of challenge we were going to face. We only had one day to complete each project so we had to work at an intense pace and plan carefully.

“At times we felt like we weren’t making progress, but we persevered as a team and worked through some difficult problems. Competition was really close, but we came through in the end.”

The Tradie Vs series has helped to put CSQ and the construction industry front of mind. The material created for Tradie Vs will be used in ongoing marketing activities to help promote the industry as a career of first choice.

CSQ’s CEO Brett Schimming said “The Tradie Vs campaign has certainly sparked some interest and has been a great showcase for our industry with 250,000 video views and 9000 votes.”

“Well done to all those involved and thanks to McNab, Thompson Building Group, WorldSkills Queensland and The Construction Training Centre for supporting Tradie Vs.”

In Tradie Vs Tropical Storm our teams are challenged to build the ultimate Port-a-loo that is not only functional but can withstand extreme tropical storm conditions.

In Tradie Vs Gravity we literally turn things upside down! We challenge the teams to fix a desk and its contents so it can survive being flipped upside down from a crane.

In Tradie Vs Brute Force we had a monster of a challenge for the three teams. Sure, constructing a tool box doesn’t sound all that difficult. How about constructing a tool box that can withstand a 4.5t monster truck

Tradie Vs Football was the final challenge in the series. Teams were tasked with building a kicking machine under the watchful eye of Qld Origin and Broncos Legend Steve Renouf.
