Try’a Trade

Try’a Trade is a CSQ initiative run through schools aimed at raising the awareness of construction as a viable career option. Each year a selection of schools are invited to send students along to an interactive program that lets attendees try their hand at various skill and trade areas.

Try’a Trade allows students the opportunity to do just that – try a trade – and find the one that could be right for them.

During the day students will have the opportunity to try a number of trades including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, plastering, tiling and bricklaying. (trades offered vary location to location).

The activities are informative and offer access to some of the basic skills involved within the construction industry. Students also gain invaluable career advice from apprentices, trainers, local employers and industry representatives.

Been invited to a CSQ Try’a Trade day? Here’s what you need to know.

What is Try’a Trade?

Try’a Trade is a day where you can try a number of trades and learn more about the many career options the industry provides. You might be thinking of a career in the trades or maybe you’re still figuring out what job pathway you might like to pursue. Either way, Try’a Trade is the perfect way for you to try a whole range of options all in the same day.

The best part about Try’a Trade is that it’s really hands on. You’ll get the chance to drill, hammer, and plaster while learning from real tradespeople. These experts can share whith you what they love about their jobs and what you might like too.

What do I need to bring?

Your teacher will let you know more about what you need to bring, but please make sure you wear closed in shoes and pants/shorts/culottes (i.e. a non-skirt option).

What if I have a question?

Please direct any questions about the day to your teacher.
