COVID-19 has negatively impacted many lives in the last two years and, unfortunately, this was the case for 33-year-old Matthew Kensington.

As a result of COVID, Matthew lost his long-term employment due to his employer going into bankruptcy.

Like many, since the pandemic hit, Matthew has struggled to find consistent employment to support his young family; his number one priority.

Matthew enrolled with RTO Fresh Start Education into a Diploma of Building and Construction, a CSQ-funded program.

Fresh Start Education’s Trainer and Assessor, George Frilingos guided Matthew through his qualification and assisted him in applying for a QBCC Low Rise Builders License.

Says George: “Matthew showed enthusiasm and commitment through all aspects of the course, which he completed diligently.”

When George was contacted by Metricon who was looking for suitable candidates for a Site Manager position, George quickly suggested Matthew for the position.

Metricon saw Matthew’s potential too and he won the role.

“If it wasn’t for completing the CSQ-funded Diploma of Building & Construction, I would have never got the job with Metricon,” Matthew says.

Matthew upskilled to enhance his career prospective, beating all the challenges that were thrown his way.
