Construction Skills Queensland Appoints New CEO to Lead Record $83.5 Million Training Plan

Industry training fund, Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ), has announced the appointment of Tara Diamond as its new Chief Executive Officer following a highly competitive national recruitment process.

CSQ Chair Sue-Ann Fresneda said Ms Diamond will bring extensive leadership experience and a strong commitment to supporting workforce development, industry productivity and skills investment across Queensland’s construction sector.

“Following a rigorous selection process and consideration of a strong field of candidates, the Board is delighted to appoint Tara Diamond as CSQ’s next CEO,” Ms Fresneda said.

“Tara distinguished herself through her extensive experience gained at the Australian Resources & Energy Employer Association (AREEA), where she currently serves in the role of Deputy Chief Executive and Company Secretary.”

Ms Fresneda said the appointment comes at a significant time for the organisation and the industry, with CSQ continuing to play a critical role in supporting Queensland’s construction workforce.

“Queensland’s construction industry is experiencing unprecedented demand, driven by population growth, major infrastructure projects and preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” she said.

“One of the most important responsibilities facing our new CEO will be leading the delivery of CSQ’s record $83.5 million Training Plan, the largest annual investment in workforce development in the organisation’s history.

“This investment will support thousands of workers, apprentices, trainees and employers across Queensland, helping to build the skilled workforce needed to meet the state’s future construction demands.”

Ms Fresneda said the Board was confident Ms Diamond would provide strong leadership as CSQ entered its next phase of growth and impact.

“CSQ has built a strong reputation as a trusted partner to industry, government and training providers, and the Board is excited about the leadership, strategic vision and fresh perspectives that Tara will bring to the organisation.”

“Together with our industry and government partners, we remain focused on supporting a skilled, capable and future-ready construction workforce for Queensland.”

Ms Diamond said she was excited to join the organisation and contribute to its important work:

In taking up the role, Tara Diamond succeeds former CEO Geoff Clare, who led the organisation over the past three years.

“The Board thanks Geoff for his contribution and looks forward to building on this legacy,” Ms Fresneda said.

Ms Diamond will commence as CEO on 2 November 2026.
